Black Pearl
C. Annuum
10,000 – 30,000 SHUIf you hear the words “Black Pearl” and you don’t immediately think of Johnny Depp and Pirate ships, you have been living on another planet!! Although if it’s treasure you are after this chilli is definitely a jewel in the crown. It won an award in 2006 for its beauty alone. This plant is totally black and we mean a deep velvet black. Something you would expect to see growing on some otherworldly mystical twilight planet. The fruit is small, round and black until ripens to a bright vivid red. The contrast is astounding. The fruit is quite edible and has a slow creeping heat. It may well be the best ornamental around!

Black Piquin
C. Annuum
50,000 – 75,000 SHUThis one has been named the Black Piquin perhaps because like the original red variety the Spanish call it pequeño meaning small. It is a chilli that is not only a stunning black before it ripens but also has a very unique black speckled foliage. It is a compact growing plant getting to approximately half a meter tall. Like it’s red namesake the flavour is citrusy and a little nutty. Fruit grow to 1.5cms tall by 0.5cm’s wide or smaller and would be great smoked or to heat up any dish. For those who love black chillies this is one for the collection.

Black Prince
C.Annuum
10,000-30,000 SHU
The Black prince is a striking plant originating in Mexico. It gets to about 60 cm high and is mainly grown for its ornamental value although the small fruit, while not very hot, is great in a salad or recipe where you need the chilli flavour but not the heat. Don’t forget that they do turn red when they are ripe, which takes quite a while.

Black Scorpion Tongue (Variant)
C. Annuum
Approx. 50,000 – 80,000 SHU
What a stunner – this is our favourite new variety for its looks alone. THSC released an F2 phenotype of a new Black Scorpion Tongue variety and this is how ours turned out. We can’t guarantee its stability but what a beauty to play with to see what you get. If its anything like ours you will get the most intense purple coloured pods that ripen through a rainbow array of colours. Just check out the pics. Pods grow prolifically and upright getting to about 3cm long and 1.5cms wide in size. The flowers on this stunner are the best we’ve ever seen on a chilli plant and have to be seen to be believed. Limited stock on this one so why not try your hand at growing this unique pepper to admire in your garden. What does it taste like? Salty and bitter but who cares it looks amazing.

Blondie
C.Baccatum
100,000-200,000 SHUWe love white chillies! And this is an unusual baccatum that ripens to white. Pods look quite a bit like Aji Crystal in shape. The fruit goes from bright lime green to cream white with purple touches then to an ivory white-like colour. The taste is fresh aromatic with hints of unripe tomato, citrus and exotic fruit. The heat effect is immediate but pleasant. This chilli can be dried to get a white chili powder while maintaining the taste and strength.

Blue Christmas
C. Annuum
Approx. 20,000 – 40.000 SHU
The Blue Christmas chilli plant grows to about 50 cm in a pot and is one of the most beautiful chilli varieties we have seen. The stems and leaves are dark purple and the pods colour transformations are just stunning. The fruit ripen from a pastel pink, bright purple, fluorescent orange and then red. It is speculated that it earned its name from being shaped like a Christmas Tree covered with colourful Christmas lights. Salty sweet flavour that is quite good considering it’s an ornamental type. But we think they’re too pretty to eat…;-)

Bolivian Bumpy
C. Chinense
150,000 – 200,000 SHUThis one is as pretty as a picture and is the result of crossing the Bolivian Rainbow (c. annuum) and the Yellow Bumpy (c. chinense). The pods turn bright yellow and display some lovely purplish/coppery tones on their way to ripening. Pod size is 3cm long and 1.5cms wide on average. It grows very compact and bushy and would go well even in a small pot. The pods have a very fruity aroma and a delicious citrusy flavour.

Bolivian Orange
C.Baccatum
60,000-100,000 SHUAnother great baccatum variety – from it’s namesake Bolivia. We originally sourced seeds from Pepperlovers and there is not a great deal of available info on them. We can however say that they have an amazing sweet orange citrus flavour that is very unique. These twisted spear/torpedo shaped chillies are not explosively hot and grow to about 4-5cms long and 1cm wide. Plants grow quite gangly and need staking when it starts fruiting. Fruit ripen from light green to a lovely orange. This is definitely one that’s easy to grow and we simply love it freshly chopped over any good meal including pizza.

Bonda Ma Jacques
C. Chinense
250,000 – 350,000 SHUAfter tasting our first Bonda Ma Jacques we thought we’d died and gone to heaven. It’s one of the most citrus tasting chillies we’ve had. Almost like orange rinds with a bit of sweetness and tang. They have an amazing tropical aroma and are definitely hotter than the average habanero. This one’s a relatively rare habanero variety originating from the French Antilles and is quite prolific and easy to grow particularly in warmer climates. Bonda Ma Jacques fruit grow to about 2-3cms wide and 6-8cms long with a slight tapering end point. We absolutely love this one.
