AFGHANI PEPPER
C.Annuum
10,000-20,000 SHUThe Afghani pepper is an interesting rare chilli pepper from Afghanistan. It has a dry, tough, bitter and sharp taste when eaten raw however it makes a fantastic dried powder as it has a very strong hot acidic taste which may not be found in other chillis. Although not recommended for any use other than powders, flakes, or rubs it is one we love to use dried.

After Glow – Space Chilli (HJ 10)
C.Annuum
Approx. 6,000-10,000 SHUThis is one of the most prolific of the space chillies and grows red. Up to 40 fruit on the plant at once and it just keeps pumping them out. Very similar to a cayenne look and taste wise but quite a bit sweeter. Like the cayenne chilli pepper this one is very versatile but we love them fresh or pickled.
“For many decades work has been going on by the Chinese who have been sending seeds into orbit on satellites exposing them to zero gravity. It has become apparent that the trip into space is creating higher yields, bigger produce, and an increase in the levels of nutrients in the resulting fruit.”

Albanian Red Hot
C. Annuum
Aprox. 50,000 – 100,000 SHUAnother corker of a corker…The Albanian Red Hot pepper is a rare heirloom variety from the Albanian-Macedonian region that was discovered by Pepperlover. They had seeds sent to them by a Turkish friend who says that it is famously used by Turkish villagers in making their local chilli powder. This is what has been said about it and we can only agree wholeheartedly. “Very sweet, almost cherry like sweet with rich long lasting taste of acidic-heat without any bitterness. By all means, this pepper is a true treasure, when we used it fresh it was mouthwatering, when we made some into powders, it has its own unique sweet-lightly acidic and sour flavor which we didn’t experience in other peppers. No need to smoke this pepper, it has its own woody/mushroomy aroma.”
This type of skin is referred to as “vezeni” (meaning “embroidered”) and the longer you leave on the plant the more embroidered it gets. The Albanian Red Hot grows to around 20cms long and 3-4cms wide, so if you like your chillies big, flavorsome, easy maintenance and super productive go no further.

Aleppo
C. Annuum
5,000 – 10,000 SHU
From the war torn fields of Syria this one has now become hard to get. Also known as the Halaby pepper. Sweet and juicy with a good wack of heat the Aleppo Pepper is super tasty. It has been described as having the flavor of “sweetness, roundness and perfume of the best kind of sundried tomatoes”. Very popular as flakes and powder this one’s quite a good all rounder. The Aleppo chilli is a staple for many Middle Eastern recipes, and for very good reason. The flavors of the chilli pair very well with Mediterranean cuisine. Go on this one has to be on your next chilli grow list.

Anaheim
C. Annuum
500 – 2000 SHUThe Anaheim chilli is one old time classic that has a versatility in cooking that is unrivaled. It’s a mild, medium sized chilli growing to 15-20cms long and 3-4cms long. Americans can’t get enough of them and they are one of the most common chilli’s used in many foods and recipes. This is no wonder given that the Anaheim chilli is named after the California city of Anaheim. Raw Anaheim chillies are bright, succulent and have a great peppery flavour. When cooked they take on a whole new depth of rich, sweet tanginess. If you’re still not convinced this is one for you just imagine…biting into a Relleno which is when the pepper is roasted, stuffed with gooey cheese and then coated in egg and fried. Mmmm Mmmm. Anaheim chillies are said to pair well with cheeses, pork, poultry, corn, tomatoes, eggs, black beans, and spices such as cumin and corriander. Well we think they go well with just about anything really. They seem to like the cooler weather and when they get going they are great producers.

This chilli pepper is an interesting one obtained from THSC. The Banjul Markets Gambia Pepper is said to originate from Gambia in Africa and it is stunning in its full glory.
The Gambia chilli pepper is very prolific with the pods ranging from creamy white to yellow to orange to red when fully ripe. Heat wise they are hot but not super hot with a lingering tongue burn. Flavour wise it is slightly sweet and a tad salty. We use them a lot in curries as the soft skin melts away easily in any dish.

Barbara’s Antipodes
C. Anuum x C. Chinense
Unknown SHUBarbara’s Antipodes may be one of the most versatile chillies ever! It is the unusual but deliberate cross of a Sweet Bell Pepper and a Bhut Jolokia. It was bred by Florian Hauch in Germany back in 2007. Since then he has grown it to at least F11 so it’s completely stable. Florian generously gave some of his seeds exclusively to us at Chilli Seedz. We would say it tastes like a really good Capsicum, sweet and juicy with a really good mellow punch of heat. To put it short, it’s brilliant! Salads, stir fry and, being about one third the size of a big capsicum, is great for stuffing. The possibilities are endless and you guys are going to be the first in Australia to have it! Germination rate is down a little, about 70%. Still great!
