Bolivian Orange
C.Baccatum
60,000-100,000 SHUAnother great baccatum variety – from it’s namesake Bolivia. We originally sourced seeds from Pepperlovers and there is not a great deal of available info on them. We can however say that they have an amazing sweet orange citrus flavour that is very unique. These twisted spear/torpedo shaped chillies are not explosively hot and grow to about 4-5cms long and 1cm wide. Plants grow quite gangly and need staking when it starts fruiting. Fruit ripen from light green to a lovely orange. This is definitely one that’s easy to grow and we simply love it freshly chopped over any good meal including pizza.

Bubba
C. Baccatum
2,500 – 3,000 SHUAlso has a GRIFF 9221 classification.
This one grows hubba bubba tall coming in at a whopping 6 foot. Hugely prolific this variety has all the Baccatum qualities we love. Super sweet with apple undertones the fruit grow to about 7cms long and turn from green to orange to a beautiful glossy red. With medium thick crunchy flesh it goes a treat with fish and salad. If you love your Baccatum chilli varieties you will love the Bubba. The plant also does well in cooler temperatures.

CO1234 Yellow Ding Dong
C. Baccatum
Approx. 500 – 1,000 SHUWhat a surprise this one turned out to be. It was labeled CO1234 but we like to think of it as our Yellow Ding Dong as it has the most amazing dangly shapes. Next to no heat this variety has a very thin wall with a lovely citrusy orange flavour. We think it would be great dried but as with most baccatum’s its mild enough to enjoy straight from the bush.

Erotico
C.Bacatuum
1,000 – 5,000 SHUThe Erotico would have to be one of our all time favorites. We fell in love with its strange phallic shape and intense golden orange colour. The fruit curls at the bottom forming an appendage similar to the male genital organ. Taste wise it is completely unique having an almost creamy texture. Citrucy with notes of cedar and tamarind, it just dances on the taste buds having just a tingle of heat. The Erotico chilli plant is quite prolific when it gets going and has an umbrella canopy style growth pattern. We think it makes a great accompaniment with fish or steamed vegetables but we put it on everything. We also love it dried as a powder and used for making chilli salt. You simply MUST grow this one.

Giallo Arancio
C. Baccutum
80,000 – 120,000 SHUPeruvian Giallo Arancio is a thick fleshed chilli from Peru. It is thick and juicy and quite a heavy producer. The flavour is good with what some people have described as it having a very slight coffee hint when dried. Coffee or not, this chilli is very good fresh and would be excellent smoked! Time to experiment in the kitchen!

Inca Red Drop
C.Baccatum
10,000 – 20,000 SHUThis little wonder produces an abundance of cute little sweet fruit with its shape not unlike a water droplet. The Inca Red Drop produces small 2cm long pods that mature from green to orange to red. It has a good level of sweetness to it and not so hot you can’t pop one straight in the mouth from the garden. (Well that’s what we do anyway). Great for small patio growing with the plant not getting over 60cms tall. The Inca Red Drop is of Andean pepper origin and relatively rare. Go on add it to your chilli pepper collection 😉

Malawi Piquante(Peppadew)
C. Baccatum
1,000 – 1,500 SHUWe are well pleased with this little beauty know as the peppadew in culinary circles. Technically ‘Peppadew’ is the trademarked brand name of sweet piquanté peppers originating in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It’s a low heat medium thick fleshed pepper that is very popular for pickling and stuffing. The flavour of the Peppadew fruit is quite sweet and it has a crunchy texture when eaten raw. It’s cute, its tasty and won’t kill you with heat – even the kids will love them. The Peppadew seems to do well in colder temperatures and when it gets going it produces a mega amount of fruit.
