CGN 21500
C. Chinense
10,000 – 30,000 SHUMost hard core chilli heads will by now have heard of the CGN 21500. The CGN classification system for chilli varieties indicates an accession from the genebank at Wageningen in the Netherlands.
It’s originally from Brazil and must have some heritage with the Roxa type. It is very sweet and juicy and has a fruity and delicate flavour. Although quite mild in heat, it is very highly regarded amongst chilli lovers and is probably the most well known of the CGN types. We have never heard anything but good reports about this great chilli. It is very plentiful on the plant and goes great in a salad. Grow it! You will love it!

Chenzo – Purple
C.Frutescens
Approx 45,000 SHUWell what do we have here!…a Purple Chenzo. One that we grew that threw out purple instead of the initial black coloured fruit. The pods are 2-3 cm long and 0.5 cm wide and look awesome as they fill the bush with purple/green/matte orange and fire engine red fruit. It has a compact umbrella canopy growing habit getting to approximately 1 foot tall. PRETTY and TASTY this one is perfect for patio growing.

Chilhuacle Negro
C.Annuum
Approx. 30,000 – 50,000 SHUThis is a very ancient and somewhat rare chilli that is the cornerstone of authentic Mexican Mole. Just over Cayenne heat level the Chilhuacle Negro has strong flavor notes of cocoa, tobacco and dry fruit. Chilhuacle means ‘ancient chile’ in Nahualt, the language of the Aztec peoples. Fruit are small to medium sized with a bell shape and are a dark chocolate colour when ripe. Being very thin walled they are easy to dry for powder but they are especially good roasted before adding to salsa or mole. A must have chocolate variety that is quite versatile in the kitchen.

C. Chinense
1,200,000 SHU (approx)The human brain is the intelligent piece of your body. (for most people anyway). So why does it instruct us to ingest food that will make us feel like we are actually on fire? We have pondered this question here at Chilli Seedz for some time and we have decided the answer is… How the hell would we know! Because your Mom told you not to eat it? It’s because they taste great I guess! The Chocolate Naga Brain will make you feel like you slipped on a banana peel and plunged your face into the Sun. Super tasty, super duper hot and easy to grow. You mates will be impressed. Your Mom will not be.

Count Dracula
C.Annuum
25,000 – 30,000 SHU‘Muahahahaha I want to suck your blood’ is the first silly thing that comes to mind when we think of this chilli pepper variety. The fruit do have a good BITE to them but they also ripen from jet black to blood red. With striking jet black stems and leaves together with purple flowers this beauty looks absolutely amazing in the garden. Now officially one of our favorites to grow we can’t recommend this one enough. Grows about 2 foot tall with the fruit averaging 4cm long and 1cm wide. Taste is good too and would pretty much go with anything needing a good wack of heat without burning the taste buds off.

Plants grow to about a meter plus in height with the fruit measuring 3cm wide and 5-6cms long. Pods ripen to a shimmery shiny bright red. Such a versatile one in the kitchen to use in all manner of ways. If you love Habs then you must try this one – you won’t be disappointed.

Elephant Trunk
C. Annuum
8,000 – 10,000 SHUAnother awesomely shaped chilli – there is no mistaking this one does in fact look like its name – the Elephant Trunk. We were super surprised at how prolific the Elephant Trunk Chilli plant was with its twisty 15-20cm long fruit. This variety comes from East India and is quite a compact growing plant. Taste wise its just great, sweet and juicy, just screaming to be stuffed with something like cheese and chorizo.

Erotico
C.Bacatuum
1,000 – 5,000 SHUThe Erotico would have to be one of our all time favorites. We fell in love with its strange phallic shape and intense golden orange colour. The fruit curls at the bottom forming an appendage similar to the male genital organ. Taste wise it is completely unique having an almost creamy texture. Citrucy with notes of cedar and tamarind, it just dances on the taste buds having just a tingle of heat. The Erotico chilli plant is quite prolific when it gets going and has an umbrella canopy style growth pattern. We think it makes a great accompaniment with fish or steamed vegetables but we put it on everything. We also love it dried as a powder and used for making chilli salt. You simply MUST grow this one.
