Black Piquin
C. Annuum
50,000 – 75,000 SHUThis one has been named the Black Piquin perhaps because like the original red variety the Spanish call it pequeño meaning small. It is a chilli that is not only a stunning black before it ripens but also has a very unique black speckled foliage. It is a compact growing plant getting to approximately half a meter tall. Like it’s red namesake the flavour is citrusy and a little nutty. Fruit grow to 1.5cms tall by 0.5cm’s wide or smaller and would be great smoked or to heat up any dish. For those who love black chillies this is one for the collection.

Chilhaucle Armarillo
C.Annuum
Approx. 20,000 – 50,000 SHUIt is said that the Chilhaucle Armarillo is possibly the rarest chilli in Mexico originating from Oaxca. This variety has a unique orange-yellow colour and tastes sweet, tangy and citrusy with smoky undertones. We love it! The skin is a little tough so this one is best roasted, made into a mole or dried and blitzed into a powder. Interestingly ‘Chilhaucle’ means ancient or old implying its been around for a long long time. The fruit are trapezoidal in shape and are around 8-10cms long and 2cms wide. There are two other varieties that come from the same region that have a similar name. The Chilhuacle Negro (Brown) and the Chilhuacle Rojo (Red). The Chilhuacle Amarillo grows up to 4 feet tall and has a lovely canopy like growth pattern. So get your hands on this treasure – you wont be disappointed.

Choc Bhut x 7 Pot Yellow
C. Chinense
1,000,000 aprox SHUThere are many hybrid Chillies being produced at the moment, but not a lot of them are as good as this. The Chocolate Bhut x Yellow 7 pot certainly stands out! It was crossed By Grant Hustler a few years ago and we were lucky enough to get it from a well-known grower in NSW. It has that great Naga flavour with no bitterness and an insane amount of heat! The pods are very large and elongated, typical of Bhut. This cross is practically stable and we feel this we be very popular in the near future!

This chilli plant is very prolific when it gets going and the fruit grow to be about 6cm long and 2-3 cm wide. Taste wise it has an earthy habanero flavour with a hint of sweetness. We have come across a Chocolate Devils Tongue that has no heat but this one certainly does.

Chocolate Hand Grenade
C. Chinense
200,000 – 500,000 SHUThe Chocolate Hand Grenade is shaped remarkably like a WW2 grenade and the heat may well blow your head off! Actually, being a cross of Long Chocolate Habanero and the Black Congo Habanero the heat is at Hab level. Bred in the USA, it has a big strong smoky flavour with a spicy raisin taste too. Not bad at all! It would make an interesting sauce. The Chocolate Hand Grenade is quite scarce so be quick!

CO1234 Yellow Ding Dong
C. Baccatum
Approx. 500 – 1,000 SHUWhat a surprise this one turned out to be. It was labeled CO1234 but we like to think of it as our Yellow Ding Dong as it has the most amazing dangly shapes. Next to no heat this variety has a very thin wall with a lovely citrusy orange flavour. We think it would be great dried but as with most baccatum’s its mild enough to enjoy straight from the bush.

Condor’s Beak Habanero
C. Chinense
40,000-80,000 SHUThe Condor’s beak habanero comes from Peru and may well be the most decorative hab we have seen! The pods are such an awesome purple colour that you could grow it as an ornamental alone. Eventually they will ripen to red and you can enjoy the heat! They are not quite as hot as your typical hab but the taste sure is there. The Condor’s beak is one of the lesser known types of habaneros and makes a great feature in the garden or in a pot. We just can’t stop looking at it!

Devils Rib
C. Chinense
350,000 – 400,000 SHUA lovely habanero chilli variety from Ghana. We love how the 5cm x 2cm pods turn from a REALLY GLOSSY lime green to a vibrant stand out red. They are slightly ribbed which is also very cool. Much sweeter and fruitier than your average hab this prolific beauty would be perfect made into a fiery sauce.

Giallo Arancio
C. Baccutum
80,000 – 120,000 SHUPeruvian Giallo Arancio is a thick fleshed chilli from Peru. It is thick and juicy and quite a heavy producer. The flavour is good with what some people have described as it having a very slight coffee hint when dried. Coffee or not, this chilli is very good fresh and would be excellent smoked! Time to experiment in the kitchen!
