Aji Amarillo
C. Baccatum
Aprox. 30,000 – 50,000 SHUWhat a flavour sensation this one is…The Aji Amarillo pepper is literally named “yellow chilli pepper” and is grown extensively in Peru. The fruit have a thick skin and grow to approximately 15cms long and 2cms wide. Not too hot as chillies go this one balances heat with an awesome fruity flavour reminiscent of mango and passion-fruit. You have to taste it to believe it. This one makes a great paste but is terrific in sweet curries. The Aji Armarillo is also super easy to grow and pumps out lots and lots of fruit over its long growing season.

Aji Jobito
C. Chinense
0 – 500 SHU
The Aji Jobito Chilli is A VERY RARE chilli pepper from Venezuela. The following review done by our friend Nigel Carter sums up this pepper beautifully…
“This is a truly astonishing pepper… This is the best tasting non-hot C.Chinense I’ve ever eaten, bar none. I`ve eaten a few, too!… A great looking pepper, to my eyes, and it is even better when you bite into it. The flavours are really sweet, rich and complex. There is a little C.Chinense flavor mixed in there, too, but it isn’t strong. The aftertaste is very rich and nutty, like raw almonds or Brazil nuts.

Anaheim
C. Annuum
500 – 2000 SHUThe Anaheim chilli is one old time classic that has a versatility in cooking that is unrivaled. It’s a mild, medium sized chilli growing to 15-20cms long and 3-4cms long. Americans can’t get enough of them and they are one of the most common chilli’s used in many foods and recipes. This is no wonder given that the Anaheim chilli is named after the California city of Anaheim. Raw Anaheim chillies are bright, succulent and have a great peppery flavour. When cooked they take on a whole new depth of rich, sweet tanginess. If you’re still not convinced this is one for you just imagine…biting into a Relleno which is when the pepper is roasted, stuffed with gooey cheese and then coated in egg and fried. Mmmm Mmmm. Anaheim chillies are said to pair well with cheeses, pork, poultry, corn, tomatoes, eggs, black beans, and spices such as cumin and corriander. Well we think they go well with just about anything really. They seem to like the cooler weather and when they get going they are great producers.

Ave De Equadore
C. Baccatum
Approx. 500 – 1,000 SHUThe Ave De Equadore chilli is surrounded in mystique. Said to be from the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, this very special and rare chilli variety is just delightful. It ripens to the most amazing translucent golden orange and is as sweet as it looks. Next to no heat this variety has a very thin wall with a lovely citrusy flavour. We think it would be great dried but as with most baccatum’s its mild enough to enjoy straight from the bush.

Barbara’s Antipodes
C. Anuum x C. Chinense
Unknown SHUBarbara’s Antipodes may be one of the most versatile chillies ever! It is the unusual but deliberate cross of a Sweet Bell Pepper and a Bhut Jolokia. It was bred by Florian Hauch in Germany back in 2007. Since then he has grown it to at least F11 so it’s completely stable. Florian generously gave some of his seeds exclusively to us at Chilli Seedz. We would say it tastes like a really good Capsicum, sweet and juicy with a really good mellow punch of heat. To put it short, it’s brilliant! Salads, stir fry and, being about one third the size of a big capsicum, is great for stuffing. The possibilities are endless and you guys are going to be the first in Australia to have it! Germination rate is down a little, about 70%. Still great!

Big Jim
C. Annuum
1000 – 3,000 SHUThe Numex Big Jim is another super sized chilli and is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the producer of the largest Chilli pods ever grown. Pods can get up to a foot long but on average grow to 25-30cms in size. The Big Jim plant grows quite small(70cms) considering its fruit size. The variety was developed in the mid 1970’s by Dr Nakayama as a result of a breeding program at the Chile Pepper Institute. Due to the pod size and mild heat the Big Jim is perfect for stuffing. Stuff them with your favorite plain or herbed cheese and add diced, cooked chicken or beef to create a Delicious mouth watering giant popper!!.
